Top 5 Budget Things to Do in Berlin

Are you planning a trip to Berlin and looking to explore the city on a budget? I’ve been living in Berlin for five years now and have tried many different free activities over the years. One thing I love most about Berlin (besides all the amazing restaurants in Berlin that you can read about here!) is that it offers a variety of exciting and budget-friendly activities. From museums and historical sights to raves and parties, there are several free activities you can do to make your trip to Germany’s capital unforgettable. So let’s get into the top 5 budget things to do in Berlin!

Take the Bus 100

You probably know those expensive Hop-On-Hop-Off Busses you find in many big cities, right? Well, you also find them in Berlin. However, if you take the Bus 100 you’ll be taken along the exact same route for only 3,50€ (That’s a lot better than paying 30€ if you ask me!). So next time you’re in Berlin take the Bus 100 and enjoy all the biggest sights of Berlin for nearly a tenth of the price.

Visit the Futurium

The Futurium is a house of the future. It shows its visitors a glimpse of what the world of tomorrow might be like while always asking “How do we want to live?”. On 5,000 square metres, visitors can explore the Futurium Lab, exhibitions and different events. The entrance is free of charge. Another great and budget-friendly thing about the Futurium is the Skywalk. It’s free of charge as well and it offers a great view of the city. A must for anyone visiting Berlin for the first time!

Relax at One of Berlin’s Amazing Lakes

Wannsee, Müggelsee, Schlachtensee, Tegler See…. Berlin has so many lakes I won’t waste my time naming them all. So on a hot summer’s day, the best budget-friendly thing to do is to go to one of Berlin’s lakes. You won’t have to spend any money at all, you get to cool down and experience Berlin like a true local. What else do I have to say? Pack your swimwear!

Go up to the Dome of the Bundestag and Enjoy the View

This one might be my favourite of the entire list! And it is completely free of charge as well. Climb the glass dome of the Reichstag Building, home to the German Parliament. The panoramic views of the city are spectacular, and admission is free (though booking ahead is recommended).

Enjoy One of Berlin’s Many Festivals

Berlin is known for its incomparable party scene so it comes as no surprise that throughout the year Berlin hosts many (street) festivals. Karneval der Kulture, Fête de la Musique and Festival of Lights are only some of the festivals that take place in Berlin. These festivals don’t charge any entry fees so they are completely free to visit. To find out when and where the next festival takes place click here.
