Thailand and Australia
Before we start, I know it has been a very very long time since we last posted to this blog but we are back. We’ve got some exciting new developments and some big travel plans for the end of this and next year and will therefore have loads to write about!
As I write this, we are in Shenzen (China) waiting for our connecting flight to Bangkok! Our plan is to spend the month travelling Thailand, mainly focusing on the more northern regions such as Chang Mai, Chang Dao, Mae Hong Son as well as planning to spend some time in Krabi too. After this we plan to head down under!
Why Australia?
Well aside from the obvious reasons, like the incredible landscapes, nature, weather and laid-back lifestyle, moving to Australia has always been something I’ve wanted to do. Doing the whole the whole backpacker/work and travel visa thing of a road trip down the East Coast has always been a dream of mine. Now at the age of 27, this feels like the perfect opportunity to do this. Plus if I’m not careful I’ll slowly age out of the Working Holiday Visa!
Funnily enough, I had been planning on moving down under in 2020 however, Covid travel restrictions really ended up messing this up. I instead moved to Berlin, Germany. Don’t get me wrong, moving to Berlin has been great. Berlin is by far the best place I’ve lived and might be one of the best cities in the world (especially in the summer). But life in Berlin can be quite complicated. And in the Winter it is very dark and very cold.
The idea of swapping the doom and gloom of a grim Berlin winter’s day commuting to work on the U8 with a walk along some sort of sunny beachside town in Australia seems ideal. I’m of course exaggerating. I know the sun isn’t always shining, even if you’re on the “Sunshine Coast” and the heat can get annoying too, but you get my point!
Online, there seem to be many mixed messages when it comes to moving to Australia at the moment. Moving to Oz a few years ago would have been far easier than it is today. The more you read the more complicated/worse it seems to get. The process of moving to and living in Australia has become a lot harder and far more expensive.
It seems like every article I read, highlights new issues, especially in respect of the cost of living. But hey, these issues seem to be pretty much everywhere at the moment, so we thought let’s give Australia a try!
We will be sure to keep you guys updated not only on our travel experiences in both Thailand and Australia. We’ll try to document our experiences of dealing with the cost of living and housing crisis and how these affect those on Working Holiday Visas. We hope this information helps any other travelers planning to head down under!
