When I first moved to Brighton to start my studies, I dreamed of spending the few summer days we have in the UK at the beach, soaking in that limited amount of sun. However, when those few days come around, everyone has the same idea: “Let’s go to Brighton Beach”. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone.

As soon as the sun is out, not only is Brighton heaving with tourists, but Brighton Beach is also jam-packed, and it feels almost impossible to relax and enjoy that sunshine we’ve been waiting all year for!
So, let’s imagine the sun is finally out again, and you’re looking to head to Brighton for a day out at the beach, or you’re a local considering your options.
The first and most logical option is Brighton Beach, but it’s almost always jampacked, loud, and expensive (if you require parking). Sure, it’s a great place for those looking to be near the station and city centre, but it’s not really a beach you can relax on and spend the day at.
Option two would be to head towards Hove or Peacehaven in the hope that it will be a little less crowded, but you never really know if this will be the case.
Option three, and my personal favourite, would be to head towards Seaford, more specifically, to Cuckmere Haven. I know what you are thinking: Seaford? Where is that? And why would I want to go there? These are all very valid questions, which I’ll answer shortly. But to cut a long story short, if you want to get to the nicest and least crowded beach, this is your best bet!

How to get to Cuckmere Haven?
Option One – Brighton Central Station to Seaford Station
Getting from Brighton to Seaford is pretty easy via public transport and by car. By Car, it should take roughly 40 minutes to get to Seaford. However, this time can vary quite a bit as the coastal road can be pretty packed, especially if there is a lot of traffic. Your best bet would be to take the train from Brighton Central Station to Seaford (37 minutes); this will only cost you £6.10 for a return journey, and best of all, you won’t have any struggles searching and paying for parking! However, if you are lucky, you should be able to find some free parking!

Once you’ve arrived at Seaford Station, it’s roughly a 60-90-minute walk to Cuckemere Haven. I know what you are thinking—this doesn’t seem worth it, but I promise you it is! This journey takes you along the beautiful cliffs of Seven Sisters Country Park, offering some stunning views in the process. This hike is worth definitely doing, even if you aren’t planning to spend any real-time at the beach!

Option Two – Brighton Central Station to Seven Sisters Park Centre
This second option is for those who have slightly less time on their hands or maybe are less inclined to take on the 2,7 mile (4,2 km) trek. This journey includes a slightly shorter walk (Estimated at 30 minutes); however, it also offers some nice views, however pale in comparison to the views you get whilst taking route one.

For those using public transport, there are a couple of options. There is a direct bus service from Brighton Clocktower to Seven Sisters Park Centre. This route takes roughly 50 – 120 minutes, depending on traffic. This journey should set you back £4.00. Following this, it’s a 30-minute scenic walk along the winding Cuckmere River.
For those using the car, it is roughly a 50-minute drive. However, as ever, this number can vary quite significantly depending on the amount of traffic! Parking is available at Seven Sisters Park Centre, and any stay over 2 hours will cost you £12.00.

Give it a go!
If you are looking to avoid the crowds and do something a little different on a warm summer’s day, then this really is the day trip for you!
